SOCIAL SECURITY BILL
SECOND READING DEBATE
MINISTER'S REPLY NEXT WEEK
When the House of Representatives rose last night the second reading debate on the Social Security Bill was practically concluded, as it is unlikely that the debate will amount to more than the reply of the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) when it is resumed next week. Yesterday the debate lacked interest during the greater part of the sitting, the only noteworthy feature being the concluding speech for the Opposition which was delivered by Mr. S. G. Holland (National, Christchurch North). When the House adjourned, thirty-seven speakers had taken part in the debate, twenty being Government members, fourteen from the Opposition, and three Independents.
