BOXING

CALTAUX BEATS STIRLING

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, August 25,

In a professional welterweight boxing contest in Oamaru tonight, Vie Caltaux (Auckland) scored a knockout in the tenth round against Don Stirling (former welterweight champion), the referee stopping the fight after Stirling got to his feet and awarding the decision to the Aucklander.

The bout was fought at a fast pace, and there were some torrid exchanges, but Stirling was unable to combat Caltaux's tactics.
