A BRIEF TENURE
To have figured as the owner of the imported mare Ballymoy 11, the dam of the dual Riccarton winner Tidewaiter, for about half an hour was the experience of Mr. Ken Austin, of the Elderslie Stud. The Irish-bred mare had proved a shy breeder for her owner, the Hon. Eliot Davis, and during a visit to Elderslie he offered the mare to Mr. Austin, and to deliver her to Elderslie free of cost, an offer that was gladly accepted. About half an hour after the gift had been made a telegram was received by Mr. Davis advising him that the mare had dropped dead that morning at his Auckland farm. Winsome Lv, on occasion, has shown signs of soreness, and the Raceful mare has of late been occasioning her trainer some concern. Northern reports state that Te Hero, one of the best of the Auckland two-year-olds of last season, is going along nicely in his preparation. Owing to the alterations that are being carried out at Te Awamutu, his trainer, A. Cook, contemplates moving his team temporarily to Avondale.
