WHEAT PREFERENCE

REMOVAL BY CANADA NOT

SETTLED YET

OTTAWA; August 24,

The Prime Minister, Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King, states regarding the wheat preference question that nothing has been given up. Nothing has been settled, though many angles have been discussed and many suggestions advanced. He expects that the United Kingdom negotiations with the United States will be completed early in September.

At an international conference in Quebec on agricultural and economics questions, delegates expressed the belief that removal of the wheat preference would have no appreciable effect on Canadian sales in the United Kingdom. There was no evidence that preference had increased the volume of Canadian sales.
