BOSTON, August 22. Results of the United States doubles championship tennis matches are:— Budge and Mako beat Washman and Burgess, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3; Brugnon and Gopfert defaulted to Puncec and Kukuljevic; Hughes and Hare beat Gow and Hyde, 6-2, 6-3, 6-3; Henkel and Metaxa defaulted to Farrin and Howard.

Petra and Destremeau were also among the winners. Quist and Bromwich beat Ballagh and Hughes, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2; Hopman and Schwartz beat Kamarath and Wetherell, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, 8-6; Mulloy and Tolley beat Filby and Shayes, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4; Hunt and Wood beat Van Horn and Parker, 6-3, 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, 9-7; Allison and Van Ryn beat Kuramitsu and Mervyn Weston. 6-2, 6-3, 6-4; Gilbert Hunt and Sutter beat Kovacs and Harman, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-4. Kovacs and Harman are the only seeded team eliminated so far.

Women's Doubles. —Mrs. • Hopman and Miss Stevenson beat Misses Bigler and Cummings, 6-0, 6-1; Misses Winslow and McCrea beat Misses Stanton and Osborne, 6-2, 6-1; Misses Stammers and Lumb beat Misses Johnson and Ellis, 6-1, 6-1; Misses Bundy and Workman beat Misses Painter and Morill, 6-4, 6-4; Mrae. Mathieu and Mile. Jedrezjowska beat Misses Burritt and Seager, 6-0, 6-1.

Budge and Mako were not pressed, and played in lazy style, scoring points almost at will. The Germans Henkel and Metaxa merely commented: "We were refused permission to play, but intend to stay and watch the matches.'*

Quist and Bromwich . won with scarcely any opposition before an unusually large gallery. Hopman and Schwartz started unsteadily but later settled down. Theirs was the best match of the day. The~ match in which the British pair Filby and Shayes were eliminated was very hard fought and the result was always in doubt.
