FORMATION FLIGHT
EGYPT TO AUSTRALIA
BRITISH PLAN
THE CREWS SELECTED
(Received August 23, 9.10 a.m.)
LONDON, August 22
The following will be the members of the crews of four Wellesley planes which are to attempt to set up a record for the" greatest formation flight by planes in formation from Egypt to Australia: —Squadron-Leader R. Kellett, Flight-Lieutenants H. Hogan, P. Dunn, A. Combe, A. Saunders, E. Gethering, B. Burnett, and R. Musson; Flight-Sergeants M. Game, B. Phillips, H. Gray, and T. Dixon.
Possibly the flight will be made from Cranwell to Singapore, but Egypt has a longer runway. In any case it is hoped a flight will be made to Darwin.
The tentative date of the start is September 28, depending on the end of the monsoon, but it is not likely to be later than October 10.
The Air Ministry informed the Australian Associated Press that secret test flights have been made with new engines which several times have circled England at over 200 miles an hour. Enormous petrol tanks were installed.
