BROADCASTING AFFAIRS

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —In support of his decision to retain the services of Mr. Scrimgeour, Mr. Savage has adduced three reasons: (1) His personal friendship for Mr. Scrimgeour. (2) His opinion that there is no one else available for the job with equal qualifications. (3) The receipt of numerous letters from supporters of Mr. Scrimgeour requesting that his services be retained. But the fact remains that a public' servant in a responsible position has committed a flagrant breach of the spirit and letter of his appointment, and his action has, in effect, been condemned by the Government. In other, words, there is one law for the friends of the Government and another law for those who are not. —I am, etc.,

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Referring to the recent case when Mr. Scrimgeour "kicked over the traces" in defiance of all the regulations generally understood by the older class of Civil Servants, it would be interesting to hear where the Public Service Commissioners come in.

Another point. in connection with" the broadcasting branch of the service is how the new positions are-filled. I have not noticed any advertisements inviting applications. I presume civil servants in other branches have the opportunity of applying. On examining the Estimates it seems from the relatively high pay of announcers, etc., that many old servants, would wel•come a transfer. —I am, etc., INQUISITIVE.
