KAURI TIMBER
PERPETUAL SUPPLIES
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 22,
Prospects of securing perpetual supplies of the world-famous timber from the kauri forest areas in North Auckland are very bright indeed, said the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) today. This information has been forwarded by forest officers to the Commissioner of State Forests (the Hon. F. Langstone), who has a five-year plan of general afforestation in hand.
The forests of North Auckland are unique as they contain the only remaining supplies of kauri, the most valuable of all indigenous softwoods, and one of the finest timber trees in the world. Active measures for perpetuating kauri forests and rationing timber supplies are in operation.
