DUE TOMORROW

The latest addition to the Union Steam Ship Company's'fleet, the Korowai,' is due to arrive at Wellington tomorrow from Glasgow. The Korowai, which was launched on May 2 from the Linthouse yard of Alexander Stephen and Sons, Limited, is intended for the coastal trade of New Zealand. She is 290 ft in .length, 45ft in breadth, and 21ft 9in in 4epth, with a gross tonnage of about 2560, and she is of the single-deck type with poop, bridge, and forecastle. Her twelve derricks and gear are designed for rapid loading and discharging of cargo, and the three large hatches, are served by twelve steam winch.es.. The propelling machinery consists of triple-expansion engines designed to give an average speed of 10 knots at sea in all weathers, and the engines will work on superheated steam supplied from two cylindrical boilers, fitted with . Howden's forced draught, and burning coal. The Korowai is the latest of a series of ships which the Union Co. is fiaving built in Scotland for the New Zealand coastal trade. These vary slightly in dimensions and design, some having Diesel engines and others steam, but all are alike in their complete and efficient arrangements for handling cargo- and in their provision for the comfort of the officers and crew.
