CLUB WORKERS
NO AGREEMENT YET
MORE CONCESSIONS WANTED
When the Conciliation Council resumed today to consider the chartered clubs' dispute, Mr. W. J. Mountjoy, advocate for the employers, reported that he had again considered the position with his assessors and they were unable to increase their wages offer or to make any further concessions. They feel that in offering the chartered club workers wages and conditions on a parity with those enjoyed by the workers in private hotels, they were going as far as they could bs expected to go. They were offering wages for kitchen hands equal to those offered workers in private hotels and in addition they had offered a rate for stewards which deserved ponsideration.
The employees' assessors considered the position at a private conference and 1 when' they returned intimated that they were prepared to agree to a number of minor clauses which still remained j in dispute. These dealt with uniforms,; travelling expenses for workers employed after 11 p.m., and other similar matters. THE WAGES QUESTION. Dealing with the-wages offered by the employers, the employees' advocate, Mr. F. G. Young, said that if the employers were prepared to offer a further 2s 6d a week increase to the lower-paid workers in the kitchens, the employees would be in a position to go further. They would accept the wages offered for other female work-| ers and also tentatively accept the rates for stewards provided that the employers would agree to pay £5 7s 6d and £4 15s to the chief and second stewards respectively in establishments where between 7 and 10 of a staff were employed. They also wanted "£4 a week for all male employees not included in the other schedules. They objected to the suggested deduction for meals and considered that where meals were available they should be supplied without deduction. The Council adjourned with the wages clauses mentioned by Mr. 'Young still in dispute.
