FRESH INTERVENTION
DENIED BY ITALY
ONLY NECESSARY SUPPLIES
(Received August 22, 1 p.m.)
ROME, August 21
It is reliably stated that the Foreign Minister (Count Ciano) has informed the British counsellor (Sir Noel Charles) that charges of renewed Italian intervention in Spain are without proof. It is believed that Count Ciano added that if fresh war supplies were reaching Spain. they were merely what was necessary to maintain the Italians at present in the field, and also that Italy could not be expected to withdraw her volunteers before similar action was taken by others, especially France.
