CANTERBURY BEAT WELLINGTON

CHRISTCHURCH, August.2l. Canterbury successfully defended the English Football Association's Trophy against a determined challenge from Wellington on Saturday. Canterbury went to the attack from the kick-off, Burnand centring with a high kick that dropped near the goal-mouth. Craggs kicked and then R. Smith got behind it and the goalkeeper did not even handle the ball. Canterbury 1, Wellington 0. Canterbury scored a beautiful goal, Craggs sending in a thirty-yard centre for D. Souter to turn in a wonderfullytimed header. Canterbury 2, Wellington 0. Heath (Wellington) started a movement that enabled Ward to send in a low one to beat Mcßae all the way. Canterbury 2, Wellington 1. Edmunds passed to Ward who had Cawtheray and the goalkeeper beaten. He feinted, left Cawtheray standing, and then sent in a fast rising drive to the corner of the net. Canterbury 2, Wellington 2. ' Even play followed up till the spell with the score unchanged. Early in the second spell Canterbury were awarded a penalty kick, McMillan netting. Wilson sent up a long kick for R. Smith to secure and net. Wellington scored as the result of a pretty combined movement starting at the half-way line, Janes getting the goal. The final score was: Canterbury 4, Wellington 3.
