SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR

The first annual meeting of the Upper Hutt branch of the League of Mothers was largely attended. Mrs. Kersley, provincial president, was present, and all were warmly welcomed by the president, Mrs. Castle. A comprehensive report of the work accomplished during the year was presented by the secretary (Mrs. Fortune) and the treasurer (Mrs. Reynolds). In speaking to the reports, Mrs. Kersley complimented the branch on its success, and the committee and officers on their organising ability.

The entire committee and all of the officers were re-elected. Mrs. Castle expressed appreciation of all their splendid work, and Mrs. . Marshall, who had worked untiringly as tea convener received a log-posy.

Delightful songs and duets were rendered by Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Poley, who also received posies. Promises for a goodly supply of league calendars and a number of league magazines were received by the secretary. Following afternoon tea Mrs. Kersley gave a short address, her subject being "A Child's Leisure." She uTged her listeners to be responsible for the hours of leisure and to train their children to love a garden, to grow things, and to compete' with their father. Mrs. Kersley received a spring posy. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the, speaker and the performers.
