HAWKE'S BAY TOUR

S. T. REID JOINS TEAM

The Hawke's Bay Rugby team, which won from Wellington at Athletic Park, left for the south on Saturday night. With the team for the southern tour is S. T. Reid, the New Zealand representative forward, who was not included in the side against Wellington, and who did not gain selection in this year's New Zealand team. Two of the other New Zealand representatives, D. S. Dalton and E. Jackson, remained in Wellington, and leave for the south tonight to rejoin the team. Dalton has been receiving treatment for trench mouth. The Hawke's Bay team managers are Messrs. B. Tweedie and L. Harris, and also with the team is Mr. P. Mardon, president of the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union.

It will be on Wednesday of next week that Hawke's Bay' will play Otago, and this match will be for the Ranfurly Shield if Otago is successful in defending the trophy against South Canterbury on Wednesday of this week. Hawke's Bay meet Canterbury on Wednesday and then go on to Invercargill for a match with Southland before having the shield challenge decided. The final match of Hawke's Bay's southern tour will be with South Canterbury. TEAMS AT DINNER. The Hawke's Bay and Wellington teams were entertained at dinner on Saturday evening by the Wellington Rugby Union. Mr. J. N. Millard (chairman) complimented the visitors upon their success that day, and extended good wishes to them for a successful tour in-the south.

Messrs. Tweedie and Clothier replied on behalf of the visitors, to whom further tribute was paid by the Wellington captain, Mr. J. L. Griffiths, and he and Mr. N. A. McKenzie made eulogistic references to the referee (Mr. J. Gilchrist). The opportunity was also taken by Mr. McKenzie to give special praise to the Wellington forwards for their performance.
