OBITUARY
MR. H. E. HAGGETT
The death occurred in Wellington on Thursday of Mr. H. E. Haggett. The late Mr. Haggett was born in Christchurch, but at an early age went to Timaru, where he started as an apprentice at the "Timaru Herald." From there he came to Wellington, where he finished his time with the "New Zealand Times." He sought new fields early in his printing career, working with the "Hawera Star" and later with the Wellington "Evening Post." In June, 1907, he .joined the staff of the Government Printing Office, and after 24 years' service he retired in July, 1931. After his retirement from tlie Government Printing Office he "went into business on his own account.
For 35 years Mr. Haggett was an elder of the Presbyterian Church, Petone, and spent over 20 years in teaching at the Sunday School, where he was at one time superintendent. He was also a member of the committee of the Petone Central School. Mr. Haggett was very interested in sport, but cricket was his favourite pastime, and for many years he was a member Of the Star Cricket Club, Hawera. He was captain of the Thorndon Cricket Club from 1901 to 1903.
He is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mrs. F. Harper, Cairns, Queensland, Mrs. C. Parfitt, Wellington, and Miss E. Haggett, Pe'tbne.
