MITCHELL ON THE TOUR
TRIBUTE TO THE COACH
(By Telegraph—Press Association;)
DUNEDIN, This- Day.
Mitchell, the All Black captain, in an interview, -said he thought the greatest lesson learnt on the Australian tour was that it was essential for the half-back to throw a longer pass from the base of the scrum than at present. Unless that was done the three-quarter line would not go ahead. One back line in Australia swung'into action with machine-like rhythm. There was no jerkiness about it and the wing-three-quarters were never cramped. Mr. McDonald coached the forwards on a sound basis, said Mitchell. Their cover defence'was one of the features of the tour. ! The team convinced the Australian | public that play could be just as bright under international rules as 'under the amended rules. I Mr. McDonald's team talks and coach!ing were an education to all, and the | coach contributed in no small measure Ito the success of the tour.
