NEW ZEALANDERS WIN
TEST OPPONENTS PICKED
MELBOURNE, August 19,
The New Zealand women's basketball team beat New South Wales, 21-18. The New Zealand team was M. Tangye, E. Neame, J. Willson, M. Howe, M. Martin, M. Matangi, and J. Mitchell. The visitors had slightly the better of the game, although New South Wales gave a good, clean exhibition. The New Zealand forwards were affected by the smaller goal rings and the heavier ball. The winners had most of the play, but their shooting was inaccurate. Victoria beat Tasmania, 33-12. The All Australia team to meet New Zealand tomorrow will be chosen from I the following:—B. Douglas, L. McConchie, R. Coffey, D. Middleton, D. Eckhart, M. Linton, and J. Wood (Victoria), R. Good and M. Richter (South Australia), and E. Medcalf (New South Wales). The Australian Council is in favour of the formation of an inter-Empire body and an invitation has been accepted to attend the first meeting in New Zealand in 1940 at the same time as the Centennial tournament.
