TOW TO SYDNEY
MAKO AGAIN BREAKS AWAY
SYDNEY, August 19,
Further excitement was provided for the crew and passengers aboard the motor-ship Salamaua when during the tow from Newcastle down the coast the Mako again broke away and at about the same time the Salamaua's engines gave trouble.
Both vessels were seen from the shore apparently drifting helplessly off Terrigal.
A wireless message to Newcastle brought the powerful tug Saint Hilary to the scene. The tug took the Mako in tow at 2 p.m., and the Salamaua soon got going again. The Salamaua and the Mako arrived in Sydney tonight. Both will probably be docked. Passengers aboard the Salamaua say that the towline parted at 7 o'clock last night. The Mako drifted helplessly in the path of coastal shipping four miles off shore until taken in tow by the Saint Hilary.
