QUICKLY SOLD OUT
AUCKLAND TOWN HALL FOIf
MONDAY
There is no disputing the fact tb«fc the Auckland Wrestling Association secured the gem of the present seasopi so far in being awarded the first contest between "Lofty" Blomfield and , Dean Detton, which is to be staged on Monday night. Although any other a* sociation in New Zealand would have grabbed the match if it had had the chance, how many of them would have been able to get rid of the seats m quickly as was accomplished in Auckland, where the prices were raised from the usual rates? ' ' The booking plan was to iave open-. Ed yesterday morning at 9 o'clock, btpt last year's Springbok tour was recalled when it was found that enthusiasts were waiting in a queue from as early as 2 a.m. So many people quickly' gathered that the office was opened at 7 o'clock and before the day finished the entire hall had been sold out Tsu* beats the record established last year when the hall was sold out on the Fri-* day before the Blomfield-"King Kongi" Cox match on a Monday. In recent seasons, largely perhaps because "Lofty" Blomfield has made his , home there, Auckland has been the? stronghold of the mat sport in the Dominion and often the attendances have been limited only by the available accommodation. Although other as* sociations may envy Auckland, quite a few of them could take' a leaf out of the book of the Queen City. This applies particularly to the ,acceptance of matches offered from the headquarters in Wellington. Admittedly, Auckland has been'well treated but, at the same time, it has never shown a tendency to haggle over the matches offered to it and. more than once has accepted fixtures rejected by other: associations. Apparently Auckland appredates a point which other associations are inclined to^ overlook, that the quality of the men handled by the Dominion Union is so good right through that any match cart be depended upon to produce a good display. Any nian who fails to "make a hit" if quickly given the opportunity to ply his wares elsewhere.
