MR. W. T. BAILEY'S HORSES
Mr. W. T. Bailey's dispersal sale of thoroughbred and trotting horses was held at Ashhurst this week. The auctioneers offered 14 lots, one of which, a Silvertown filly, was passed in at 100 guineas. The sale attracted widespread interest, but the bidding was not brisk, the top price, 100 guineas, being paid by the Woodville sportsman bMr. W. Broitherstone for the mare Royal Queen, dam of Diamond Cutter, Golden Enterprise, and Royal Tinge. She is due to foal to Alchemic in the middle of-next month.
The next best price, 62£ guineas, was paid by Mr. M. Priest, of Pahiatua, for the three-year-old Musketoon gelding Renascor, who is a half-brother to Finnesko. This horse will be trained by C. Thomson. Mr. Priest also secured the brood mare Royal Vanity, who never raced and who is in foal to Lackham.
A bay filly, by Musketoon out of Royal Queen, was purchased by Mr. H. T. Whale, of Marton, the price being 52£ guineas. A four-year-old mare, Dorigo, by Royal Divorce out of Great Lady, in foal to Lackham, fetched 424 guineas, the purchasers being Abraham and Williams, as agents. A bay filly by Musketoon out of Tallulah was purchased by Mr. H. E. Edmunds, of Palmerston North. After the thoroughbreds had been disposed of, a number of trotters were offered, the best price, 37 guineas, being paid by Mr. R. J. Byrne, of Hawera, for Native Worry, a black geldink by Native King out of Why Worry. Another gelding, Rangiwah, by Baron Chenault out of Boniwah, was passed in at 30 guineas. _ Native Guy (Native King—Harold Dillon mare) brought 13£ guineas, and a two-year-old bay filly by Great Parrish out of Nelson Girl fetched 15 guineas. „ „ ~ . , . After the sale of Mr. Baileys stock, the Colossus—Musical Moments gelding Maestro was offered on behalf of Mr. M. B. de Malmanche, and War Lap and Lapel on behalf of Mr. F. H. Richards. There was a substantial reserve on Maestro and no business was done, and War Lap was passed in at 90 guineas.
