A BRIGHT CONCERT
A colourful programme of song, dance, and recitation was presented in the Concert Chamber on Tuesday evening. Opening the programme the Wellington North Verse-speaking Choir were heard in a bracket of three selections. An outstanding feature of the evening was the dancing of Bryan Ashbridge and Miss Melva Doney in a Valse, Mazurka, and Pas de Deux, a delightful classical ballet presentation to music by Chopin. Trained by Mr. Knowsley, these children shov^ decided ability. Both were seen later in a classical German duo, an interpretation of soft, natural movements. Miss Mildenhall gained much applause with her humorous sketch "On English History." Mr. Don Young in a musical monologue, "Thirty Thousand Quid," and Mr. Beatus in a humorous selection also proved very popular with the audience. A vocal solo by Miss Richardson and the choral singing of the boys from Marist Bros., Tasman Street, were delightfully rendered. Other artists well received were Misses Keys, Finnegan, Pauline Robertson, and Joan Leek. A colourful song and dance by pupils from Miss Margaret Oates's Studio was popular. The programme concluded with a short play, "Cinderella at Home," by Rose Fyleman, and produced by Zenocrate Mountjoy. In this the young artists were quite at home in their roles. At the conclusion of the performance Bryan Ashbridge presented a handbag to the producer. Mr. Cedric Wright capably managed the staging and was responsible for the smooth running of the concert.
