DROP AT AUCKLAND

For the second month in succession the revenue from Customs duty collected at' Auckland Has fallen below the total for the corresponding month last year. This month tte rollertwn was £266,002 compared with £272,366 for July of last year. The total for Customs, motor spirit tax and tyre duty combined amounted to £330,47U against £335,961 for July, 1937. The totals for the first seven months of the year, however, are still substantially above those for the corresponding period last year with the exception of tyre duty, which shows a decline for the first seven months ot this year. Customs revenue alone was £1960,772, compared with £1,913,930 for the similar period last year. The motor spirit yield increased from £446,603 to £500,006, but tyre duty fell away from £18,659 to £17,046. The excise on beer increased from £104,378 to £118,527, 'and sales tax went up from £574,346 to £596,080.
