BETTER CONDITIONS
PAY, PROMOTION, AND RETIREMENT A
(British Official Wireless.)
(Received July 30, 2.10 p.m.) RUGBY, July 29.
As a pendant to yesterday's an« nouncement regarding Army changes, certain improvements in the conditions of officers of the Royal Air Force were made public today. ■
The scales of pay to squadron leaders and commanders and air commodore! are affected, and the promotion of flying officers of the general duties branch to flight lieutenants after'two years" service, which has been given as a temporary measure, will' be the standard practice in future. Instead of be* ing placed on half-pay during the intervals between appointments, officers will be retained on full pay and allowances.
The normal maximum ages of retirement for air^ chief marshals and air marshals will be reduced from 65 years to 60, and those of wing commanders and squadron leaders will be raised from 48 years and 45 to 50 and 47 respectively.
