The Original "Popeye.*

| The appearance in Auckland of Mr. Billy Costello, whose voice is heard on Max Fleischer's famous "P^peye the Sailorman" cartoons, was the signal lor an unprecedented scene of enthusiasm. It started on the arrival of the Monterey, which was met by a large crowd which, assembled to obtain- a glimpse of the man whose voice had entertained them en so many occasions. In; the revue Mr. Costello proved that; he is an artist above.the ordinary, and'is even more entertaining on the stage than he is on the screen. ; Frank Neil has surrounded Mr. Costello by a splen-. did aggregation of world-famous revue and vaudeville artists, including Sid. Page, one of New York's most popular comedians. In his sketches and his specialty act, Mr., Page is assisted by two exceptionally clever comediennes in Peggy Earle and Huth Budie. The latter performs a remarkable eccentric dance, which arouses the audience to enthusiasm. Another fine act is that of the Elite Trio, wh^se ballroom adagio dance proved a revelation to playgoers of Auckland. Then there are Joey Porter, one of London's funniest comedians; Danny Malone, the brilliant young Irish tenor; the Kermonde Bros., amazing acrobats; the Ritchie Bros., famous for their tap dancing; and other artists; alsb a feature of "Hello, Popeye" is the work of the latest Sydney Tivoli Ballet. "Hello, Popeye" will be presented at Auckland until Tuesday night, then at Hamilton on August 3; New Plymouth, August 4 and 5;- Wangariui^ August 6; Palmerstori North, (August 8 and 9; Hastings, August 10 land 11; Napier, August 12 arid 13; Dan- [ nevirke, August 15; Masterton, August 16; arid it will then be staged at Wellington for a brief season beginning on August 17. •:;■ ■; . -
