WELLINGTON CONSERVATOIRE

A proposal to establish a Wellington conservatoire for the promulgation of the cultural arts has now assumed concrete form. The conservatoire has established its headquarters at 119 Willis Street, its object being to combine, in one organisation, facilities for study and training in all branches of the cultural arts. Principals, all highly skilled in their own particular vocations, have been engaged, among them Mr. W. Dearden Jackson, recently of London, who will take the pianoforte, 'cello, organ, and bassoon classes (with harmony and class teaching), Mr. Thomas Wood who will give instruction in voice culture and singing (with classes for correct breathing and phrasing), Mr. L. Churley Walker who will be in charge of violin, theory of, music, and class teaching, Mr. Errol Muir, speech culture and dramatic art, Miss Karen Look and Miss Zena Willis, voice culture and singing, Madame Tove Ritzau. French and German languages. Preparation for the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College of Music examinations will be a special .feature of the work of the conservatoire which will be able to supply capable artists for all societies and clubs where entertainment is given. A thorough training in any specified instrument, voice, or subject will be ensured students at reasonable fees. It is proposed that the vocal classes shall take part in an operatic peformance i in October and a decision will be I made within the next week or two regarding the work to be produced. Prospectuses of the new conservatoire may be obtained from the headquarters at 119 Willis Street.
