DEFENCE LEAGUE
N.Z.R.S.A. SUPPORT
Support for the New Zealand Defence "League was given by the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association Cqnference yesterday afternoon, and a special resolution was carried commending^ its efforts. :, ' Earlier in the conference, when the question of defence was being considered, the following "remit was before the conference: —"That this association isr in entire accord with the objects of the New Zealand Defence League, and is desirous of co-operating in' the establishment of branches of this, and also the Territorial associations, throaghout New Zealand." * During the discussion, the remit was withdrawn from its position on the order paper, and when it was put to the vote as a separate remit, was defeated. SPECIAL RESOLUTION. The matter was further considered yesterday afternoon, when' the following resolution -was adopted unanimously :~"In view of the fact that the bare publication of the rejection by. this council of a remit proposing to express our accord with the objects of the New Zealand Defence League and our co-operation with that league may give rise to a wrong impression, this conference, desires: (1) to assure the executive of the New Zealand Defence League and its member's, that the decision was purely on the: principle that the close affiliation proposed by the remit was an unnecessary provision, and, further, that the balance of our resolutions was considered as being a satisfactory endorsement of the work of the League. (2) To express its utmost sympathy with arid appreciation of the efforts of this citizen body (the New Zealand' Defence League) to keep before the people of New Zealand the vital urgency and importance of adequate defence measures as indicated in our own resolutions, and its confident anticipation that the fullest support of individual returned soldiers will be given to the establishment of branches of the league and Territorial associations.'', .
The. following resolution • was - also carried unanimously:—"That this council of the N.Z.R.S.A. express to the Hon. W. Perry complete and unanimous loyalty to him as our. president, and confidence in him, and his assiduous services to the association; as also its admiration 'ojf his unselfish devotion to other community ' work in respect of which much of the credit is reflected on the association."
