SYDNEY SLAUGHTERMEN

STRIKE TO CONTINUE

THREAT OF EXTENSION

(Received July 15, 10.15. a.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day.

A meeting of the Meat Employees' Union decided to continue the strike of mutton slaughtermen, and that if volunteers are engaged the beef slaughtermen should stop work immediately.

There will be a mutton famine in Sydney at the weekend. Prices of meat have risen by 25 per cent.

The dispute is due to the refusal of the mutton slaughtermen to accept an adjustment of their working hours. A message published yesterday stated that the Government was so exasperated that it authorised the Minister of Labour (Mr. A. Mair) to call for volunteer labour this morning. The strikers have been joined by slaughtermen from other abattoirs, as well as in Newcastle.
