THE EXHIBITION

DUTCH EAST INDIES' DISPLAY

Although the Centennial Exhibition. will not' be an international affair there is every probability that the Dutch East Indies will have a display, the Department of Overseas Trade having advised the honorary president of the Exhibition (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) that as the Indies are not sovereign States, there is no objection to a display by them. The matter was referred to the Department of Overseas Trade after a request for space had been received from the Indies.

"Although the Centennial Exhibition has not been officially recognised as an international exhibition, which precludes the issue of' invitations to foreign Governments, urgent representations were made by the Consul for the Dutch East Indies for space at the Exhibition," said Mr. Sullivan in an interview last evening. "This request was referred to the Department of Overseas Trade for consideration, and the advice now received ik that the Dutch colonies, not being sovereign States, would not bring their participation within the purview of the International Convention.

"It is quite evident," continued Mr. Sullivan, "that the proposed Exhibition is attracting world-wide interest, and consideration is now^being given to whether States in other foreign countries can be granted exhibition space under the same conditions as those applying to the Dutch East Indies."
