EMPIRE'S SMALLER SUPPLY

Shipments from Empire countries, it is stated, were 20 per cent, less than a year earlier, and comprised only 40 per cent of the total, . against 48 per cent, last year. Imports from New Zealand declined by 44 per cent., and those from the Union of South Africa, Eire, and S.W. Africa Territory were 47 per cent., 12 per cent, and 60 per cent., respectively, less than a year ago. Supplies from Australia increased by 21 per cent.
With the exception of the Netherlands, Estonia, and Argentina, larger supplies were received from the chief foreign sources, shipments from Denmark being 3 per cent, neavier than a year ago. Imports from Sweden were more than doubled, while those from Latvia and Finland increased by 43 per cent and 34 per cent, respectively. Exports from the Netherlands declined by 18 per cent, Poland sent greatly increased quantities, and 3400cwt were received from Norway as against nil last year. Total imports into the United Kingdom in the first five months of 1938 were 4 per cent, heavier than in the same period of 1937. For the week ending June 12, it is stated that Danish exports increased, with heavier supplies to Germany more than offsetting a decline in shipments to the United Kingdom. Total exports were 5100cwt less than in the corresponding week last year.
