FIRE IN HOTEL
NO GREAT DAMAGE
Severe damage to brie robin, of th« Clyde Quay Hotel was done by-a fir» which broke out shortly after 2 ; o'clock this afternoon, the speedy" arrival of the men of the Central Fire Station, three doors away, preventing Avhat might have been a more serious blaze.
The fire appeared to have originated in a bedroom in the south-east corner of the upper floor of the (Old twostorey wooden building,, and-it. was that room which .suffered the principal damage, though other rooms both on; that floor and on the. ground floor were affected by heat, smoke,. ana water. In its early stagesthe .fir* emitted dense clouds of smoke which attracted the attention of people some distance away. Three engines came from the Central Station and one from Thorndon in response to the alarm at 2.17 p.m. ... * ■
