TEAMS AT DINNER

The two teams were the guests of -the Wellington Women's Hockey Association at a dinner, at the Empire Hotel, on Saturday evening. ■ Miss C. M. Wilkins, president of the 'association, said that the visit of the All-England Women's Hockey team had been looked forward to keenly for some years. It was a privilege to 'have the team in New Zealand,, and throughout the country its members had been spoken of as good sportsWomen. Both teams playing that after.jioon had played good hockey, and had

given the spectators some great excitement.

Mr. J. Cusack, in proposing the toast of "The English Team," said that the team had shown that they were a firstclass team, and had established a greater record than the 1914 team. "I think that in the game we saw today, the English team met the best combination that they have met in New Zealand," he said. He hoped that the team would go back home happy and contented, and leave fond memories behind in New Zealand.

" In reply, the manageress of the team (Miss E. J. Warwick) said that she wished that the team could stay in New Zealand longer and get to knew the people they 'had met better. The Wellington team had put up a marvellous defence, she said, and the English players had been delighted to play on such a good ground.

Miss I. Pearce, secretary of the New Zealand Women's Hockey Association, in proposing the toast of "The Wellington team," congratulated the players on the wonderful display they had given against the tourists. She paid a tribute to the work that the Wellington selector (Miss Wilkins) had done.

The captain* of the Wellington team (Miss I. Pickering), who replied to the toast, said that the team was perhaps lucky to have secured a draw. "It is unfortunate that there is only one match arranged on these tours, as next time we might have beaten our opponents," she skid, amid laughter. Another tpast, "Parent Bodies," was proposed byr Miss M. M. Knott, captain of the English team, and replied to by Miss A. Yorston, president of the New Zealand Women's, Hockey Association.
