INDEX BY DR. INGE
' Dr. Inge, who is one of the 3500 contributors to the "Encyclopaedia Britannica," has revealed, that he has ambitions to index future editions of that standard work. Here are two samples from his advance index which, he quoted at the lunch given by the "En-j cyclopaedia's" directors to contributors and friends: Austria —See Germany. Democracy-^An obsolete form of government still practised in North America—See Dictatorship. Dr. Inge, who has no love for demo- j cracy, would find his retirement fully I occupied if he took up this indexing | job, says the "Daily Telegraph and Morning Post." The "Britannica," findI ing that its periodical supplements cannot keep pace with the swift march of events, is henceforth bringing out an annual "Book of the Year." Democracy was represented by Lord Cecil. He wondered how long a publication devoted to truthful recordings of facts would continue to enjoy its world-wide circulation. Mrs. M. D. Law, who edits the new year book, was able to assure him that so far the "Britannica" has not been publicly burned anywhere.
