N.Z. WORKERS' UNION
After sitting for ten days in Wellington, the annual conference of the New Zealand Workers' Union has concluded. Twenty-five delegates, representing over 30,000 workers, attended. Mr. R. Eddy, Wellington, the president, presided. Over 500 remits were tabled. They related mainly to domestic matters affecting the welfare of the union.
Navvies engaged in street repairs have discovered beneath the pavement of the market place at Bunzlau, in Silesia, the long-lost foundation-stone of a monument to Field-Marshal Prince Kutusoff, who commanded the Russian Army against Napoleon in 1812. Prince Kutusoff died at Bunzlau during the pursuit of the main army in 1813.
