OBITUARY

MR. W. W. BIRD

CARTERTON, This Day.

The death occurred in the Grey* town Hospital yes>rday afternoon of Mr. William Wilson Bird at the age of 88.

The late Mr. Bird was first employed in 1864 by the late Mr. Alexander Sutherland, Lyall Bay, Wellington. He came to Hinakura in 1875 where he worked for Mr. Sutherland's sons, William and David, now both deceased, and up to the time of his death for the sons of the late Mr. David Sutherland, Alexander and Kenneth. Altogether he was employed by one family for a period of 74 years, which is claimed to be a New Zealand record.
