DEBATE CONTINUED

A LIVELIER DISCUSSION

SOCIAL SECURITY PLAN ATTACKED

Although the subjects discussed on the resumption of the Address-in-Reply debate in the House of Representatives yesterday were far from new, there was rather more interest shown in the proceedings than on the previous days, due largely to the livelier handling of some of the stock topics by members on both sides of the House. Forbes (National, Hurunui) on the social security^ proposals, on the grounds that they had no practical foundation and were too ambitious. In a typically entertaining speech in the evening Mr, F. W. Schramm (Government, Auckland East) amused the House and the galleries with his reply to various points of Opposition criticism.
