CHOPPING CONTEST

A challenge chopping contest for a stake of £50 betwpen Gyril pay^s, Otago champion, and Charles Harding, Southland champion, was staged at the Civic Theatre tonight, Hayes winning each of three events. Hayes won the two underhand cifops ifairly easily, his time for the 12-inch log being 24 l-ssec, and lor. the 15-inch lag '43 4-ssec. He won the standing chop by a blow in 29^ec, the log being a 12-inch one.
