ALL BLACKS PRESENT
PONEKE CLUB'S DANCE
I It takes more than rain to dampen the enthusiasm of footballers, and last night repeated wintry showers did not deter them and other enthusiasts from attending the Poneke Football Club's dance in the Mayfair Cabaret. There was a very large attendance of players and their friends, and special guests of honour were members of the 1938 All Black team who left this afternoon by the Wanganella for their Australian tour. ■' ' > r Streamers in red and black, the wellknown club colours, were hung over the entrance-way and across the aisle leading to the lounges, and pleated scarlet fans centred by black trailing | streamers added a further vivid touch' of colour to the room. In the corner reserved for the official party was hung/ a club banner with its initials worked in red on a black silk background. Paper bells in matching colours were j suspended from the crystal chandeliers, j and the same scheme was carried out in the supper-room, where flat red and j black streamers were placed along the
white-clothed tables. The flowers were particularly lovely. Great brass bowls of Iceland poppies and bracken were stood at each side of the orchestral dais and in the corners of the room, and hydrangeas and poppies were massed in. the flower stand in the centre. The many small tables were arranged informally about the cabaret and were the rendezvous of gay parties between dances. The official party included, Mr. S. S. Dean (club president), Mr. A. S.
