ASSOCIATION MEETING

The first annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Owners, Breeders, and Trainers' Association was held yesterday afternoon, the chair being taken by Mr. W. J. Wood in the absence of the president, Dr. E. H. B. Milsorri. The president forwarded his report, which was read by the secretary, Mr. C. E. Craig. He made special reference to the wonderful strides the association had made in the pastr year, and pointed out that it had only to continue to make reasonable progress to be recognised as one of the leading racing bodies in the Dominion, He said that official recognition had been given the association by the Racing Conference, and was quite sure that such a worthy ibject could not fail in the future. Branches had been formed in many districts of the Dominion, and it was pleasing to note the patronage being received, from owners = and trainers. Suggestions had been forwarded with a view* to dividing up the various areas, and this would be one of the first considerations of the incoming executive. . In moving the adoption of the report, Mr. Wood paid tribute to the financial position of the association, which showed a credit balance of £42. This was particularly pleasing when it was considered -the amount of expenses necessary in the organisation of the association. ■ Remits sponsored by Mr. Shattock relative to subscriptions and the constitution of the executive were discussed at length, and it was finally decided to .place them before the executive for further consideration. The question of dividing some of the area covered by the Manawatu branch was similarly dealt with. . GAMING ACT AMENDMENTS. Mr. R. S. Bagby (Auckland) sponsored a remit concerning the petition to the Government-asking for amendments to the Gaming Act, on the following points:—Double totalisator, publication of dividends; and trie provision of some means of directing off-thi=-course betting through the legal channel, . the totalisator. The proposals were adopted unanimously. Mr. A. Syme, secretary of the Canterbury branch, forwarded particulars of the agreement finally arrived at between his association and the Stable Hands' Union. The Hon. G. R. Hunter traversed the negotiations since the i formation of the union.- Members expressed deep appreciation to Mr. Hunter and the executive of the Canter- j bury branch for their fine work. A number of remits brought forward by various branches were discussed and referred to the national executive for consideration. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected:— President, Dr. E. H. B. Milsom (reelected); vice-president, Hon. G. R. Hunter (re-elected); secretary-trea-surer, Mr. C. E.
