THE ADDRESS IN REPLY
ELECTION YEJiI SPEECHES
Fifteen Government members arid nine Opposition speakers had taken part in the Address-in-Reply debate when the House of Representatives adjourned last evening. The range of topics was wide and there was an election year flavour about several of yesterday's speeches, but little new ground was touched upon; and the precedent set by those who followed the main contributors to the debate, of occupying no more than the half-hour allotted to them, was maintained without exception. It was notable, in fact, that no extensions of time were moved from opposing benches, and it is a fair assumption that the debate, which embraces the Opposition no-confidence amendment, will be concluded well within the usual time and leave the way open for the more important business of the session.
