SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.
Pressure has risen over the Dominion, but Is still relatively low and a slight secondary depression was passing this morning in the south. Over eastern Australia there has been a more definite rise of pressure and an anticyclone should be covering New Zealand during the second half of the week. Winds have decreased since yesterday and are rather variable- over the South Island, but south-westerlies still predominate. During the past 24 hours rain has fallen in most places, but no heavy falls are reported. This morning it Is showery in the far north and south, but elsewhere for the most part fair to fine. Temperatures are low and frosts are reported frpm. a number of places.

Winds.—Tarlable at first with light to moderate north-west to south-west predominating. Later southerlles acaln becoming general and fresheninK somewhat.
Seas. —Rough north of Kawhia and a considerable southerly swell on the east coast; otherwise slight to moderate.
Weather.—For the most part'fair to fine, but occasional scattered showers in many districts, more especially north of Kawhia and Tauranna and In the' southern part of the South 'Island. Jemperatures cold with many frosts.
