EXCITING BOXING
GILDO BEATS CLARK
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 4. The most thrilling exhibition of boxing witnessed at the Auckland Town Hall for. years took place tonight when Young Gildo, Honolulu, gained a points decision over 'Snowy Clark, Western Australia, in a contest of 12 threeminute rounds. A crowd which filled the hall cheered the pair consistently, specially Clark.
The Australian took severe punishment in the tenth round.. Following a succession of right hooksi'he was sent down for a count of eight with a right cross. A few seconds later he was on the mat again for nine after a similar attack. He appeared to be in a bad way when he. regained his feet, and his chief second, Cyril Pluto, twice rose to his feet preparatory to throwing in the towel. Clark, however, "made one of the most remarkable, recoveries ever seen after such a relentless attack. He did not cover up while he gained his steadiness, but went straight in and traded punch for punch with the Filipino.
Immediately the gong sounded for the eleventh round Gildo adopted another attack by means of left hooks and right crosses, but a stinging left hook in reply sent him to the ropes. Clark's left eyebrow was badly, cut when his head came in contact with that of his opponent, and the wound bled freely throughout the final round. Gildo weighed 9st 4ilb'and Clark flst 3lb. A preliminary professional bout between Bob McLachlan, Auckland, and Jack Duncan, Hamilton, was won by the former on points. ■
