RESCUE WORK FOR HORSES
There is always strong support for the annual horse-shoe ball in London, says an English writer. The Earl of Lonsdale, the president, has had no difficulty in enlisting the support of such lovers of horses as Viscountess Buckmasier, who has consented to be chairman, and Lady Hannon and Lady Alexander as the deputy chairmen. There are few professions which can vie with the stage in helping a good cause and Lady Alexander, that doyenne of the theatre, has had little difficulty in enlisting her friends to aid her. She held the first, meeting at her residence in Pont Street, and guests were told that the object of the ball is to provide funds for rescue work at home by the International League for the Protection of Horses and for Mrs. Geoffrey Brooke's Old War Horse Memorial Hospital for animals in Cairo.
Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Ball (Foxton) and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ball (Lower Hutt) have arrived in London after having spent a month on the Continent. They are on a tour of business and pleasure combined, and they will leave for America and Canada by the Queen Mary on July 13 from Southampton.
