SPEAR CHIEF'S FUTURE

< Prior to Spear Chief's running third in the Doomben Newmarket Handicap, a half-interest in the colt was secured by Mr. J. Harris, Sydney, for £1500 and -contingencies applying to the Doomben Meeting. The trainer, G. Price, inspected Spear Chief and considered the horse was sound, whereupon the deal was completed on the spot. ' Spear Chief will be trained at Randwick in future by Price for the partnership, of which the other member is Mr. J. B. Charlton, one-of the original owners.

Described as a really fine type, Spear Chief is almost black, with a tinge of tan. He looks up to weight, but has "suspicious" hocks. Concerning these, Price is reported to have, said: "Any man who has seen the horses by Soult win all the big races in New Zealand with the funniest hocks in the world would not take any notice of a horse's hind leg."
