TARANAKI RfDER'S SUCCESS
A brilliant battle for first place was a feature of , the Wellington Cash Cycling. Club's 34 miles road-race held1 on Satuarday afternoon. . L.' woods (Taranaki)'won narrowly from U. Staveley. Woods, Staveley, and Wright started off the 4min mark and showed early in the race that they would keepthe scratch men busy. . Wright, suffering from a heavy cold, dropped out s»t Naenae, and after Woods, amet Staveley had caught Sayer, off 4Jmln, the rest of the field had no chance with them. The finish was the-best seem tMs season, Woods, with a wonderful spurt, shooting ahead to gain first place. Sayer took third' prize. Results: —L. Woods (4min), lhr 23min 5 2-ssec, 1; G. Staveley (4min), lhr 23min 5 4-ssec, 2; X Sayer C4^min), lhr 23mira 35 4-ssec, 3. Fastest times: L. Woods (4min), 1; G. Staveley (4min), 2. The 20-mile time trial which was to have been held on Saturday has foe-en postponed till July 16.
