DIFFICULT MARKET
BUTTER IN LONDON
(By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) LONDON, July 2. Butter has had a difficult, market. The publication of stocks showing an increase of 98,000 boxes resulted, in hesitancy followed by a slight appreciation, after which the market turned easy. An appreciable break is, however, likely.
The Primary Products Marketing Department advises the Dairy Board that the London butter market at close of business on July 2 was "quiet and prices slightly easier at the close." New Zealand salt butter was quoted 123s and for extra lines 124s per cwt, compared with 124s for the week before. Australian, 121s and for extra, 1225; Danish (spot price), 124s to 1255; Polish, 113s to 114s. Unsalted butter quotations were: New Zealand, 124s to 1255; Australian, 122s to 1235; Dutch, 113s to 114s, and up to 118s for special lines; Polish, 112s.
The retail prices of New Zealand and Danish butter remained at Is 3d per lb. The cheese market is steady for New Zealand white and coloured at 68s to 68s 6d. Canadian white and coloured, 78s to 80s; English factory cheese, 65s 6d. Australian, white and coloured, is selling at 65s to 675.
