BIG ORDER PLACED

FIGHTING PLANES FOR U.S.A.

WASHINGTON, July 1,

The War Department has placed a contract for fighting planes to the value of 14,433,196 dollars. This is the largest order ever given in peacetime in the history of the nation.

The order calls for 98 aeroplanes, including thirteen additional "Flying Fortress" bombers, 78 twin-motored Douglas machines, seven Vultee attackers, and also additional motors and equipment..

The "Flying Fortress" order was given to the Boeing Aircraft Company.
