NEWTOWN CLUB

(~,._Mr. G.. W.. Booth presided over the annual meeting of the Newtown Bowling Club.

Members stood in silence for a few moments in memory of the late Mr S Phillips, who at the time of his death Was the oldest member of the club, and of the late Mr. C. Rush.

# The chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balancesheet, referred to the fact that the membership had been maintained at the same figure as last year. He stressed the need for an increase in the number of members. The finances of the club were satisfactory, and a substantial balance was in hand.

The report of the delegate to the centre, Mr. J. M. Porter, was presented, and Mr. Porter was thanked for his services as the club's representative.

The meeting again affirmed its belief that the senior pennant competition would be improved by the adoption of the "two home and two away" system.

A motion to approve the suggestion from the centre to adopt a uniform blazer for each centre, all clubs wearing the same blazer adorned with its own emblems, was defeated.

Mr. J. H. Laughton was unanimously elected^ a life member of the club, in recognition of services rendered over a period of thirty-three years. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. G. W. Booth (reelected); vice-president, Mr. W. Denby; secretary, Mr. W. J. Lowe; treasurer, Mr. B. A. Guise; management commitr tee, Messrs. A. Aers, H. Austin, E. Dale, G. E. Fownes, J. M. Porter, A. Rough, G. D. Stewart, G. E. Taylor, C. Wilson; sole selector, Mr. G. Aers; selector for midweek games, Mr. C. W. Barker.

A vote of thanks and appreciation was passed to the green superintendent, who did not seek re-election, the greenkeeper, Mr. W. Lewis, and members of the management committee who had retired from their positions.
