OBITUARY

MR. HARRY JULIUS

SYDNEY, June 29.

The death has occurred of Mr. Harry' Julius, Australian caricaturist and water-colour exponent, aged 54.

Mr. Harry Julius,was born at Sydney in 1885 and. studied art at Julian Ashton's class in that city. He was an artist, designer, and advertising service, agent. He drew caricatures and cartoons for the "Bulletin" and other papers and magazines for many years and was the first artist in Australia to animate cartoons for the moving picture screen. "He visited America and worked as artist and cartoonist there. He introduced the coloured comic into Sunday journalism in Australia. He was the founder, with Sydney Ure Smith, of "Art in Australia" and "The Home."

SIR WILLIAM MACKENZIE

MELBOURNE, June 29.

The death has occurred of Sir William Colin Mackenzie, director of the Australian Institute of Anatomy at Canberra, aged 61.

Sir William Colin Mackenzie was born at Kilmore, Victoria, in 1877, and educated at the local State school and Scotch College, Melbourne. He held the post of lecturer and examiner in anatomy at Melbourne University, and was a member of the council of the Anatomical Society at. Great Britain and Ireland. He saw war service from 1915 to 1917 and was k member of the surgical staff of the Military Orthopaedic Hospital, Londbn. He resigned his .directorship of the Australian Institute of Anatomy early this year owing to ill health. He was regarded as one of the most distinguished comparative anatomists in the world. His collection of anatomical specimens, which he presented to the Commonwealth in 1924 as a foundation of the institute of anatomy, attracted visits from anatomists from all over the world.
