Under the new capital ship agreement which will be announced shortly, Britain, for the first time in history, will no longer possess the world's largest battleship. The agreement, involving ? escalation as a result of- Japan's nonadherence, provides for America building battleships of 45,000 tons, Britain of 42,000 tons, and France of 35,000 tons, the latter being conditional on no.European country except Britain exceeding this limit. All the Powers agree to a 16-inch gun limit. It is expected that Russia, Germany, and Italy will ultimately subscribe to the agreement. # Britain's concession to America is a sequel to the development of relations between Britain and the United States no longer involving naval rivalry and jealousy.
