WELLINGTON MAORI CLUB

Descriptions of journeys they had made down the Wanganui River were given at a recent meeting of the Wellington Maori Club by' Messrs. J. P. Peart, and F. W.'Vosseler. Mr. Peart had on two occasions travelled from Taumarunui to Aramoho in a canvas canoe, and Mr. Vosseler had made his trips in the old-time Maori canoe.

The numerous kaingas and pas on the river, were described, and some lantern slides were shown by Mr. J. Paterson. Several of the decorated meeting houses with carvings and poupou were shown in pictures, and delightful scenery on the upper reaches of the river was illustrated. The speakers told of many interesting experiences, and held an appreciative audience for upward of an hour.

Mr. Johannes C. Andersen, president of the club, related some of his experiences when he spent several wetekS in the various villages on the Wanganui River. Mr. W. W. Bird, whose official' duties had taken him to the villages along the river, also spoke of his experiences.
